Fine Gael Kildare South TD Martin Heydon has today (Friday) welcomed the rollout of new high speed broadband in areas around Old Kilcullen by Imagine following a long campaign to improve provision in Kildare South.
“The investment by Imagine is one I pushed hard for as part of my engagement with several local and national broadband providers about the lack of proper services in the Kildare South Constituency. We need additional services and more choice in areas of Kildare South outside of the larger urban areas, where there is a huge unmet demand for quality broadband services.
“The current rollout by Imagine in the Old Kilcullen area which will serve surrounding areas of Kilcullen, parts of Calverstown, Narraghmore and Suncroft is a positive move which will bring improved services to almost 400 households but more is still needed. I am continuing to engage with Imagine, Eir and other providers to highlight the demand that exists in many rural areas of Kildare for improved services.
“I met with senior representatives from Eir in July to discuss their continued rollout of Fibre broadband and emphasized the need for a quick delivery in the South Kildare area. The states National Broadband Plan is still in progress as well, but will take more time before we see services on the ground so I want to work in tandem with that to get more service options to local Kildare residents who are crying out for the services.
“I also continue to work closely with Imagine to highlight areas that are outside of this rollout area. I will continue to push Imagine and other providers to convince them that there is a demand to meet increased investment in broadband provision in the Kildare South area as the substantial take up on this present rollout is proving.”
